Spellings Part 8 – Only One Word
Another quick list of ten spellings today as they are all one word. This might sound easy, but given that most of them are closed compound nouns (two words that have been put together to form a new term), the Microsoft spellchecker might not let you know that you should not have written them separately.
Please remember that all the bite-sized tips entries are based on the New Oxford Style Manual, so spellings may vary in other style guides.
1. timescale
2. keyword
3. subcontractor = one word, so not sub-contractor or sub contractor (I recently saw a form which had all three versions in two consecutive sentences. I guess the writer was hedging their bets!)
4. falsework = one word, whatever the spellchecker in Microsoft Word says
along the same lines as falsework
5. formwork
6. worldwide = one word, so no world wide or world-wide
7. papermaking
8. teletext
9. nightclub
10. relaunch = no hyphens please
